The ultimate test to success

We learn something new every day. Whether it be expected in class that we learn something new about a topic, or we learn how things work from experience in an action or task for that day, we gain knowledge. What we learn can be tested sometimes. A lot of times the things we learned aren’t necessarily tested unless it is in a job or out of class we are taking. I believe the way people learn things is different based on who it is and how they retain knowledge themselves. By testing students you learn how much knowledge they retained within a certain amount of time, and what they spit back to you is what they understand from what they have learned. In essence these grades do show how much the student has learned from whatever it might be that they studied, but, sometimes students aren’t good at taking tests. Rather they perform well through teaching or by example through a project. They may not explain the matter in the form of a test through the questions presented in the best way they understand things. Therefore, I believe it is more in the best interest of the student for them to be able to test themselves of the format of the information rather than being forced through question on paper. This helps understand the true knowledge retained of any student anywhere.

Technology that lacks intelligence

Today society is consumed by technology. Everywhere you look people are on their phones making calls, checking social media, looking up something on the internet, or texting. Our world has become so consumed with what is the fastest, quickest route to finding the solution, that we have become lazy in doing all else. In some cases, everything we do is in the most comfortable route for us to be lazy ourselves as humans. If something can be done in the most lazy and easiest/quickest route, it has been found or the solution is on search. If you don’t want to talk on the phone there is texting, even more so if you don’t want to text full sentences there are acronyms, phrases known worldwide for social media, and shortened versions of words. Some words are not even in the dictionary, yet most people believe they are a word that should be in our vocabulary. Some words even made up today have been added to the dictionary because of their use worldwide so often and their common understanding of these terms by all. Today I believe out world is so consumed with shortened phrases and terms we have made up, that it is common for many to not know big vocabulary terms used in the professional world by brilliant speakers. This is what our world lacks, and I believe it is mostly due to technology that has made us so lazy.

Authority given to the master mind

Music is a popular form of entertainment throughout the world. It comes in various kinds from hip hop, jazz, to rap, to country, pop, dubstep, and alternative for those that do not fit the majority of categories. Every song fits under its own category of any of these due to its beat, lyrics, and rhythm. I believe music itself is a huge remix from several different tunes. It’s likely that sometimes people can copy other tunes making them sound a little too close to another. These would be known as remixes. These remixes have a twist of their own from an original masterpiece. But when someone copies another masterpiece without proper request and credit, there comes trouble. Sometimes these remixes become more popular than the original piece of music. The original piece becomes better known, but the remix gets all the attention, and this is where artists get furious. It is only easy to see why, as they originally created the artwork themselves. I believe there is a way in which remixing is taken a little too far without proper consentient of the original artist. This is why it is important to give credit to such authors who originally created part of you piece, in essence. Therefore plagiarism can be a problem, and yet with proper recognition it can be changed by giving proper credit to the authority under the master mind who helped create the base of a remix’s success.

You are the DJ to remix your life

When you think of the word remix, what do you think? I think most people in this era see remix as a form of music twisted to sound better. I believe music is the most common way that when people hear remix, they believe it is through that. Although, just because one may thin remix is through music when they hear the word, I do not believe it is the most popular form of remix. To me, remix is just another word for remodel, redo, or remake. Each of these words all do the same thing, and they all come from the same idea that if you do something over, you “re” do something, or mix it up. Every day changes like these are made in our lives, they just have different names associated with such. This is why I do not believe that there is a simple form or remix that is most popularly associated with music, even though our world revolves around music mixed up over the years. People add their own twist to everything, and then in turn they share it to the world, therefore I can’t think of a most common remix off the top of my head other than music, but that doesn’t mean it is most popular. My favorite musical remix, although, would have to be dubstep. This form of music takes beats from raps, or beats made up in general with songs that go with the rhythm and sound unique. Together, with few words, it can be easily remixed from a song to form another, and remixes of these songs take place every day through beats by people who are DJ’s for a living.

Coming together to succeed

Being on a team is a commitment. In order to do well as a team, good practice, great leaders, and real team players, all come into account. It takes time to get used to one another, and it is very important to know each other’s strengths, and sometimes weaknesses, so that the strengths can shine and the weaknesses can be hidden or masked by someone else’s strengths. With all of these coming into account perfectly, a strong successful team will come about. Growing up in Houston, sports were a big deal for me, my family, and almost everyone. Your time to shine as a kid was through the sports you played and got good at while you were young. Although I wasn’t big into team sports, I was involved in quite a few. Most of which, I led the team as a pitcher or point guard. From the experiences I had in teams, when new people came on, a new team was rebuilt. Some of the same strategies were used, but in order to be successful, we had to learn about the new team mates strengths and weaknesses and adjust to a new leader who typically had the most strengths in all different positions of the team. A mutual understanding must be made from all the team mates no matter how good or bad you are, because, none of us are perfect, even if an all-star team is created of great, top, players. These remixes team you about people and the importance of getting to know them to make your team successful, and this is a top priority in success.

Willard Hall- a remix of the past

Although I do not keep up with the remixed side of things when it comes to agriculture, it is interesting to find that it happens more than we think. Ideas change and people grow as they learn more about certain companies or universities. Families grow as well. Our reaction as American’s is to adapt to such by gaining more land to build more places for people to live, learn, or work. This can also be achieved through remodeling of an old building to a more high tech, bigger, or even more advanced environment to benefit the people and the work place or place of leisure. With this constant adaptation to the growing population and wear and tear of buildings over time, more often than we think, we remodel houses and other architectural feats. One piece of architecture that I know has changed to adapt to Oklahoma State University’s growing population and need to advance on technology is Willard Hall. Willard hall was once home to many freshman as dorms. Over time, as the population of Oklahoma State University grew, the need for more space for learning centers for different college areas quickly became adapted. New dorms were created to replace Willard hall and Willard hall began to house students who student education. Education is important to our future, and just as every other college, it needed its own hall, preferable before most others due to its importance. Today, this building is the main center of education for those who are studying education itself, in order to help educate those of our future all over the world.

Mistakes that change life and reality

blog25

Mistakes are made every day thousands of times and many times by each and every one of us because we are simply not perfect. What’s really neat, is that even though these mistakes sometimes turn negative, at times, they can turn positive and be an uplifting discovery to benefit our world. Although mistakes are viewed as a negative, I find it very easy to see that Penicillin is in fact not a negative discovery, and surprisingly, it was discovered by accident and was a complete mistake. Business insider says, “Fleming noticed that a contaminated Petri dish he had discarded contained a mold that was dissolving all the bacteria around it. When he grew the mold by itself, he learned that it contained a powerful antibiotic, penicillin.” Today, this “mistake” has been a life changing antibiotic that has helped cure many illnesses such as viruses, and help ease the pain and bring down fevers by killing bacteria in diseases. As we know by evidence today, this “accident” created by Sir Alexander Fleming, has helped many people and has proved its positive impact throughout the world. It has killed many diseases and saved many lives from viruses passed from one to another and yet it was found by mistake of an accidental mess up in chemicals. A similar mistake was the invention of the pace maker. Although these inventions were close intentions of what the inventors were looking for, they led to life changing ideas that save many lives of people all over the world today.

Big world to small town

Where you grew up and the size of the town effects many things in your life. Maybe you had more opportunities for jobs and to be yourself in a large town. Maybe you knew more people, therefore you had more connections to better jobs or a brighter future. For myself, I grew up in Houston. Because I was in one of the world’s largest growing cities, I was given the opportunity to go to many different schools and choose from many different jobs as opposed to a small town where I would’ve been stuck to possibly only one town and a few local store jobs here and there. The bigger the city and the more economically diverse, the better the opportunities are and the more likely you are to be more well-rounded and yourself. Being in a small town you are sometime forced to take whatever job it is available at the moment or attend the only school available because there are no options due to the lack of diversity because of it being such a small town and population. I am truly blessed to have lived in Houston and been given the many opportunities I had to flourish and be so close to the country, where I found my passion, even though it was against the many careers I could’ve accomplished in Houston better than anywhere else. Stillwater hasn’t changed me in any way except that I have realized how much opportunity I have been given. Stillwater has people who may or may not choose to live in big towns, but either way, grow up knowing they will be stuck with these lesser opportunities because they won’t move to start over, or because they are happy and have found what they love, with the least amount of options possible. I love Stillwater because of the close proximity to what I love, the country, and the many people passionate about agriculture, like myself.

We are who made us

Jim Rohn does an excellent explanation of what we as humans are each a remix of. His clever saying, “You are the average of five people you spend the most time with” basically says we are five people into one, influenced one way or another to mold into the person we are today. I can simply say I agree completely because I believe three of the people I am a remix of are very close to me as relative. My mother, father, brother, and two uncles, all have excellent work ethic. The determination, I believe comes from mostly my mother, who easily argues her point as woman, and my father, who is determined to be successful. Both of my parents risk things many times for the ones that they love, just as I do for friends I love and care for most. My top two characteristics would definitely be the two of these, loving and caring for others, and hard work and determination to get things done and be just as successful as my multimillion dollar uncle, successful father, mother who is on the Texas Board of Health, and my two hard working brothers. I believe that there is parts of you that can be original because everything we do is what we choose on our own, even if it was influenced one way or another. Although, how we are raised affects how we act and who we are today. Even if we choose our own decisions, and our actions may be because of what we learned about others or how we have been taught, they were still remixes from what we learned ourselves.

Technology connected commercials of the present to more emotional aspects

blog21Over the years technology has gotten the best of commercials and the more technology we get better at, the more advanced our commercials get into connecting us with the product in some form whether it be through the Budweiser commercials connecting us to friendship, or the snickers commercials telling us that the only way to feast our hunger would be to eat a snickers to gain that strength. In the past, commercials or ads were more connected to happiness and friendship which is now connected to a more personal level through commercials. Coca Cola ads were great with their slogan that Coca Cola satisfies your thirst and great friendships come together with a coke in one hand. Over time these simple forms of advertisement that get people to feel that they will find happiness through a coke evolved into a commercial that hits your personally by making you laugh or touching your heart, and in this way, you would rather be involved in the product because it makes you feel happy by doing the right thing and supporting them. This is because by supporting the Budweiser cause to reaching out to the fallen troops of 9/11, or touching your heart with a puppy, you feel as though by supporting them, you will be happy that you have done the right thing. This is much more personal than enjoying a coke with a friend at a diner in the past advertisements through similar coke commercials.
