We learn something new every day. Whether it be expected in class that we learn something new about a topic, or we learn how things work from experience in an action or task for that day, we gain knowledge. What we learn can be tested sometimes. A lot of times the things we learned aren’t necessarily tested unless it is in a job or out of class we are taking. I believe the way people learn things is different based on who it is and how they retain knowledge themselves. By testing students you learn how much knowledge they retained within a certain amount of time, and what they spit back to you is what they understand from what they have learned. In essence these grades do show how much the student has learned from whatever it might be that they studied, but, sometimes students aren’t good at taking tests. Rather they perform well through teaching or by example through a project. They may not explain the matter in the form of a test through the questions presented in the best way they understand things. Therefore, I believe it is more in the best interest of the student for them to be able to test themselves of the format of the information rather than being forced through question on paper. This helps understand the true knowledge retained of any student anywhere.
